A 57-year-old Dartmouth man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed Friday evening.

RCMP say they responded to a home on Bumpy Lane in Lake Echo, a community west of Halifax, at 2 p.m. Saturday.

In a press release, the police force said that a woman had gone to the house to check on a woman known to her. Once inside, she found the victim suffering from life-threatening injuries and called for help. The victim was taken to hospital.

Police add that the victim was stabbed by a man she knew the day before.< /p>

On Sunday afternoon, police said a man went to Halifax Regional Police headquarters.

The man was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes and possession of a weapon contrary to order.

The man was in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
