The Czech Republic has started importing gas from Algeria to compensate for reduced supplies from Russia. Recall that sanctions have been imposed on the Russian energy sector in connection with the Kremlin's ongoing war against Ukraine.
This was reported on Thursday, October 31, by the CEZ energy group, Agence France-Presse reports.
Deliveries via pipelines in Tunisia and Italy will cover about two percent of gas consumption in the Czech Republic, which corresponds to the needs of 100,000 households, according to a statement from CEZ spokesman Roman Gazdík.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000He explained that deliveries, agreed upon with the Algerian state-owned company Sonatrach, began in October.
“We have taken another step towards strengthening our energy security,” – said CEZ CEO Daniel Benes.
The Czech Republic, which is a member of the EU and NATO, is seeking to end its dependence on Russian oil and gas supplies. It already imports gas from Germany and Norway, as well as through a liquefied natural gas terminal in the Netherlands.
In 2023, the Czech Republic used 6.76 billion cubic meters of gas, which is 10.4 percent less than in 2022.
