(Glendale) Phil Kessel scored two goals, Antti Raanta stopped 31 shots and the Arizona Coyotes beat the San Jose Sharks 5-3 on Saturday.
The Coyotes got off to a better start than Thursday against those same Sharks, and they applied a lot of pressure to get four goals in two periods.
Kessel, who suffered a few injuries in his first season in the desert last year, hit the target once in each of the first two periods on Saturday.
Clayton Keller threaded the needle for a second straight game for the Arizona Troop. Jakob Chychrun and Barrett Hayton added one goal as Oliver Ekman-Larsson had three assists.
Timo Meier had one goal and one assist for the Sharks, who saw Martin Jones allow five goals on 24 shots. Ryan Donato and Tomas Hertl also hit the mark in the loss.
The Sharks had triumphed in a shootout Thursday night. They took the lead early in Saturday’s duel, but Kessel and Hayton responded.
Meier tied at the end of the first period to allow the Sharks to return to the locker room tied. The Coyotes took the lead in the second period, thanks to Kessel and Chychrun.
