Covid-19 vaccine side effects: Footballer demands accountability from Pfizer

Joseph Prezioso/AFP

Former Stade Lavallois footballer François-Xavier Fumu Tamuzo, 29, is taking Pfizer and BioNTech to court. The player says that since his Covid-19 vaccination, his body “stopped working”. Since 2021, he has suffered a series of injuries and physical suffering, forcing him to draw a line under his dream and seek justice.

“Why did my body stop working ?”, wonders Fumu Tamuzo. After his third dose of the vaccine, a series of pathologies struck the player: chronic pain, tendinopathies, then the rupture of his Achilles tendon. For his lawyer, Éric Lanzarone, the coincidence is disturbing: “The fact that the pathologies occur just after vaccination raises serious questions.” A legal expert has been commissioned to determine whether these injuries are indeed side effects of the vaccine or not. If science has not yet decided, the debate has begun and risks justifying a little mistrust…

France 3recalls that Pfizer, unsurprisingly, continues to defend the safety of its products, stressing that cases of serious side effects are extremely rare. But increasingly numerous. And in a context where health decisions have already shaken public confidence, this case could well crystallize doubts.

Ironically, it is this quest for truth that will define Fumu Tamuzo’s career more than his exploits on the field. If justice establishes a link between his injuries and the vaccine, it could open the door to similar complaints, with considerable repercussions on the place of the vaccine in the public debate. Where to draw the line between a promise of collective security and individual destiny ?
