“With the success of our influenza vaccination campaign in our pharmacies last fall, our network of owner pharmacists will be ready to participate in the COVID-19 vaccination effort as soon as the government asks us to do so,” said Eric La Flèche, President and CEO of Metro.
On Tuesday, Metro, which owns the Jean Coutu brand, held its annual meeting. The company also released financial results for its first quarter 2021.
The big boss of the Quebec channel mentioned that discussions concerning the upcoming vaccination campaigns took place recently between officials at the Ministry of Health and the Quebec Association of Owner Pharmacists and the Order of Pharmacists of Quebec.
“What we know is that community pharmacists should, it is not yet confirmed, be called upon to participate in the vaccination effort when there are more quantities of vaccines and the government is have reached the mass vaccination phase, ”commented Mr. La Flèche.
Metro says pharmacists are already “equipped” to make appointments and offer the COVID-19 vaccination service. Management believes that this war effort “will not really” impact its finances.
