Philippe Coutinho could miss the remainder of the season. This Monday, the 28-year-old Brazilian underwent surgery for a meniscal cyst in his left knee. The operation, carried out in the player's country, was carried out by Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar and supervised by FC Barcelona doctors, according to the Barça club. On the other hand, it did not communicate the estimated time of leave. Sources consulted estimate that Coutinho would spend about six weeks in the infirmary. It is the second intervention to which the carioca undergoes so far this year. Both for the same knee problem, after injuring themselves on January 2 in the game against Eibar.
When Ronald Koeman took over Barcelona last summer, he called Coutinho to let him know that he was counting on him for his new project. The carioca, on loan to Bayern Munich, had been crowned in the Champions League. In fact, in the historic 2-8 in Lisbon, Coutinho jumped onto the field in the second half and scored two goals. With Koeman on the bench, the former Liverpool player seemed to find his way to triumph at the Camp Nou.
Anguished, after Neymar's thunderous departure in August 2017, Josep Maria Bartomeu signed Dembélé first (105, plus 40 in variables ) and four months later, in the winter market, to Coutinho. The Brazilian became the most expensive addition in the club's history: 120 fixed, plus another 40 for goals. In his first stage at Barça, with Ernesto Valverde, Coutinho played 76 games, scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists. His numbers, however, faded before his confrontation with the fans – he covered his ears after scoring against United: “This is so that people see that many times I have to cover my ears to keep my focus on the game or on my work to avoid that nothing affects me, "he argued – and his irregular performance.
Coutinho, Barça's most expensive problem
At the start of the 2019-2020 season, Barcelona transferred Coutinho to Bayern. The idea of the club was to lighten the wage bill. The Brazilian's salary is about 14 million euros net per season. The Bavarian club paid Barça 8.5 million for the transfer and took over the player's file. Coutinho did not stand out in the Bundelisga either, he signed 11 goals and gave 10 assists in the 38 games he played. His return to the Camp Nou did not mark a turning point. He has played 14 games with Koeman, in which he has called three goals and has added two assists.
