Dominic Thiem’s impressive catch-up race on Friday in the third round at the Australian Open, where he was able to make up a 2-set deficit against Australian tennis bad boy Nick Kyrgios, also earned the experts and former greats respect.
“A game like this makes him even stronger,” predicts Eurosport expert Boris Becker. “That was a masterpiece.”
Thiem made up for a 0-2 set deficit for the fourth time in a row. Most recently he achieved this in his US Open triumph last year in the final against Alexander Zverev.
“Nothing is impossible!”
“Since then I have known that nothing is impossible. Giving up is not an option.
The re is always a possibility as long as the game is not over,” said the Lower Austrian on Friday after his show against Kyrgios.
For the four-time Grand Slam winner Jim Courier, who has been conducting the winner interviews in Melbourne for years, it is precisely this attitude that makes the difference to other players. “Thiem now has the gene of a champion!”
Dominic Thiem’s next appearance at the Australian Open will take place on Saturday night.
The 27-year-old Lower Austrian will not play his round of 16 game against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov before 5 a.m. (in LIVE ticker and on ServusTV).
