Cosa Nostra boss arrested in Italy

The most famous mafia in Italy, the Sicilian Matteo Messina Denaro, who has been a fugitive for 30 years, was arrested on the morning of January 16 in Palermo, Sicily. This was reported by Reuters. Denaro was wanted since the summer of 1993 and was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment for organizing the murders of two prosecutors in the fight against the mafia, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in 1992 . He also faces a life sentence for the 1993 Florence, Rome and Milan bombings.
Matteo Messina Denaro was arrested while visiting the La Maddalena clinic in the center of Palermo, where the head of the mafia regularly visited to check his health.
It was previously reported that Matteo Messina Denaro, who now 60 years old, seriously ill. The police knew about the next visit of the leader of “Cosa Nostra”, and sent several dozen undercover officers to the clinic in advance to protect ordinary patients during the operation to detain the mafia.
The place of detention of Matteo Messina Denaro, to which he was transferred after the operation, is kept in strict confidence.
