The construction industry is the worst performer of any sector based on the number of correction notices received – more than 2,659 – in just three months, according to data from the CNESST.
“We are at a stage where it is zero tolerance,” insisted in an interview with the Newspaper Jean Boulet, Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Solidarity.
“We must impose severe measures with statements of offense and fines or closure orders when required,” warned the Minister of Labor of the Legault government.
In the past seven days, more than 40 fines have been given to companies, twice the total number issued since the start of the pandemic.
In total, more than 81 tickets were issued with fines ranging from $ 1,753 to $ 14,006 in the event of a repeat offense.
Explosion of interventions
Between October 19, 2020 and January 13, CNESST inspectors intervened 1,480 times in the trade sector, 1,407 times in construction and 615 times in the manufacturing industry.
In terms of complaints, the trade sector (305), followed by construction (256) and manufacturing (184).
From mid-March to mid-January, the CNESST had to intervene more than 16,640 times in total. It issued some 23,252 correction notices targeting 6,578 establishments and construction sites.
Two establishments and 23 construction sites had to be closed, in addition to other closures ordered by Public Health.
“We see that there is relaxation during breaks, at the entrance and exit (eg trailers also on sites)”, said a spokesperson for the CNESST.
