Texas completes world's largest 3D-printed neighborhood

This summer, ICON's robotic printer is completing the last few of a hundred 3D-printed homes at Wolf Ranch, Texas.

In November 2022, ICON began printing the walls of the world's largest 3D printing community. Compared to traditional construction, the company claims that 3D printing houses is faster, cheaper, requires fewer workers and minimizes the waste of building materials.

“This brings high efficiency to the retail market. So where there were maybe five different crews going to build the wall system, now we have one crew and one robot, — said ICON Senior Project Manager Conner Jenkins.

Jenkins said the homes' concrete walls are designed to be resistant to water, mold, termites and extreme weather.

One-story, three- to four-bedroom homes take about three weeks to print with traditional foundation and metal roofs.

3D-printed homes at Wolf Ranch range in price from about $450,000 to nearly $600,000. US dollars. Developers say that a little more than a quarter of the 100 houses have already been sold.
