Norwegian arms company Nanno has begun construction of a new plant in the northern town of Raufoss as part of efforts to ramp up defense production.
This was announced by the Norwegian government, according to “European Truth”.
The Norwegian government has signed an agreement with Nammo worth 1.083 billion Norwegian kroner (about 93 million euros) to support increased production readiness over the next 15 years.
Among other things, the agreement stipulates that Nammo will build a new production facility to increase ammunition production. Construction began in Raufoss on Monday, December 2.
“This will contribute to increasing the production of artillery ammunition and rocket engines, which are of crucial importance to Norway, NATO and Ukraine,” – said State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Defense Hans Christian Kjølset.
Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Norway has decided to increase investment in the defense sector. By 2036, the country plans to invest 140 billion euros in its defense.
In addition, Nammo previously allowed Ukraine to transfer a license for the production of 155-millimeter artillery shells.
