Competition from YouTube: TikTok is testing the ability to upload hour-long videos

Popular short-form video platform TikTok is moving to long-form content. The company announced testing the ability to upload videos up to 60 minutes long.

TikTok is testing the ability for users to upload 60-minute videos. This feature is currently available to a limited number of users in some regions, there are no plans to make it available to everyone in the near future. TechCrunch writes about it.

Initially, the application was a service for short videos– users could only upload 15-second clips. But over the past few years, TikTok has gradually increased this limit.

TechCrunch notes that in this way the social network is trying to compete with the YouTube platform.

The purpose of increasing the limit is the opportunity for creators to experiment with new or expanded content types with greater flexibility. In particular, it will make it possible to distribute full episodes of TV shows on the platform without the need to split them into parts.

Many media already upload promos to TikTok and use the app to attract viewers, and the increased time limit may encourage them to share more content.

Last year, Peacock did The first episode of “Killing It” is available to watch for free on TikTok, but it was split into five parts. If TikTok launches a 60-minute video upload limit, networks will no longer have to split an episode into multiple parts, the publication said.

Recall that in January, TikTok tested the ability for users to upload 30-minute videos. Previously, the company also tested the automatic scrolling function, which will allow you to view all videos in a row without the need to swipe your finger. A similar video auto-scroll function was introduced on the YouTube video platform back in 2014.
