Combat operation 2C1 “Carnation”: how Finnish artillery fights in Ukraine (video)

Artillery systems, which were transferred by Finland, help Ukraine to fill losses in large-caliber artillery. Before the full-scale war, the country had 74 units of such self-propelled howitzers.

In social networks, the first confirmations of the use by the Ukrainian army of self-propelled howitzers 2C1 “Gvozdika”, known in Finland as PsH 74, transferred by this country. Soldiers of the 67th separate mechanized brigade, who use this weapon, showed footage of the equipment's combat operation.

Although the exact number of howitzers transferred remains unknown, according to information Defence24, Finland had 74 such artillery units at its disposal before the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia. These artillery systems, purchased from the former GDR and undergoing modernization, help Ukraine to make up for losses in large-caliber artillery.

The use of “Carnations” is facilitated by the fact that the production of ammunition for them has been increased both in Ukraine and among the allies. In addition to the PsH 74, Finland also transferred to Ukraine 130 K 54 towed field guns (similar to the Soviet M-46) and 152-mm howitzer 2A36 “Hyacinth-B”, which allows to partially compensate for losses in artillery systems.

Technical characteristics of 2S1 “Carnation”

2S1 “Carnation” — it is a self-propelled howitzer on a tracked chassis, armed with a 122-mm gun with a firing range of up to 15.5 km using standard ammunition and up to 22 km when firing rockets.

The machine's armor, up to 20 mm thick, provides protection crew only from shrapnel and small arms. The machine is equipped with a 300 hp diesel engine, which allows you to develop a speed of up to 60 km/h on roads and up to 30 km/h off-road. Thanks to its amphibiousness, “Carnation” is able to overcome water obstacles at a speed of up to 4.5 km/h, and the car's power reserve — up to 500 km.
