In China, a court sentenced the former governor of the Qiannan Buei and Miao Autonomous Region, Zhong Yang, to 13 years in prison. The woman was found guilty of accepting bribes totaling nearly 60 million yuan ($8.5 million). According to the South China Morning Post, Zhong had numerous affairs with her subordinates: 58 of her lovers have been revealed.

According to the publication, Zhong Yang was famous in China for her striking appearance; the media often called her the “beautiful governor.” In 2018, she became vice governor of the autonomous region, and in 2021, she was promoted to governor. In her position, she created an association to help farmers and often donated funds to charity.

In April 2023, she was investigated by China's top anti-corruption agency. It turned out that Zhong Yang accepted bribes and awarded contracts to privileged firms. The publication writes that she restrained the growth of private business in the province, ensuring the development of only companies associated with it.

It also turned out that the “handsome governor” had numerous lovers among her subordinates. Some of the men agreed to this because of the privileges offered by Ms. Zhong, some – out of fear of her authority and power. The governor spent time with her lovers under the pretext of “work” and “business trips”.

On September 1, 2024, Zhong Yang was expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from her government position. In addition to the prison term, the court also fined Zhong Yang 1 million yuan (almost $141,000).
