China's mobile phone shipments in August fell 12.9% year-on-year to 26.9 million units, the Academy of Information and Communication Technologies (CAICT) under the country's Ministry of Industry and Informatization said. In July, the fall was more significant and amounted to 34.8%.
Chinese brands accounted for 90.8% of total sales (24.43 million).
In January-August, shipments as a whole fell by 19.5% to 202 million phones.
At the same time, 301 new models were presented on the market, including 141 with 5G support, Xinhua news agency reported.
China is accelerating the development of next-generation 5G networks and plans to build more than 600,000 base stations of this standard by the end of this year.
