China showed the world's largest cargo drone

The development of unmanned cargo aircraft in China is moving at a rapid pace. The world's largest cargo drone, the W5000, was publicly presented for the first time at the Airshow China exhibition.

The name of the W5000 drone refers to the payload of 5,000 kilograms that it is capable of carrying.

The characteristics of the cargo drone are impressive. Its length is 21.8 meters, and its wingspan is 22.7 meters. The drone is capable of speeds of up to 526 kilometers per hour, flying at a maximum altitude of up to 6,000 meters and a range of up to 2,600 kilometers.

The W5000 control system allows one operator to simultaneously control up to five such drones.

The company – manufacturer of the W5000 Air White Whale – announced that it expects to launch the first cargo drone into operation in the second half of 2026.
