ChatGPT: New features for even more dependency

JASON REDMOND/AFP

Young people have adopted artificial intelligence as a tool for everyday life, both for their studies and for their leisure activities. Meanwhile, OpenAI ChatGPT arms with new practical features, such as reminders and permanent task management. Even more assistance ?

D 'after a study carried out by the Heaven agency, relayed by Les Échos, 39% of 18-25 year-olds use it daily, a phenomenon that has doubled in six months. Students or young workers have integrated AI into their lives as an invisible but omnipresent assistant, whether it is to write a text, prepare a presentation or find information. “AI saves me time, I find my information more quickly”, explains a user.

The use is far from limited to academic or professional fields. AI is also used to create content, from images to videos, music and even politics. “AI helps me better understand my electoral choices”, confides a user, revealing a surprisingly intimate dimension of this technology. Worrying, when you consider that GAFAM increasingly filter the content with which they feed their AI, thus making the responses particularly fucked.

And OpenAI intends to interfere more and more in people's daily lives, by adding the programming of recurring tasks to its features. As Siècle Digital reports, “it is possible to program a reminder to renew your passport in six months or to receive a weekend plan every Friday based on location and weather forecasts.”

While 68% of young people fear that increasingly advanced automation will lead to job losses, they remain generally optimistic about its benefits for society. Perhaps they are not aware that the more efficient this technology becomes, the more it could dispossess them of their creative and professional independence, even their independence of thought.
