ChatGPT has attracted the attention of cybercriminals due to its ability to generate program code.
As Moonlock Lab reports in its 2024 report, attackers are actively using this chatbot model to develop malware, including attacks on macOS-based computers.
Previously, creating such software required deep knowledge and experience in programming, which was a barrier to many. However, ChatGPT has significantly simplified this process. According to Moonlock Lab, hackers, such as a certain “barboris”, are already sharing successful examples of using ChatGPT to generate malicious code on the darknet, which further popularizes this approach.
Additionally, the problem is exacerbated by the MaaS (Malware as a Service) market, where attackers can rent ready-made solutions for a relatively small fee – from $1,500 per month. This cost reduction is associated with increased competition caused by the availability of AI tools.
