Charging station for a penny: fraudsters invented a new scheme of deception

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine announced the emergence of a new fraud scheme, which is connected with the preparation for the winter period. A recent case in Nikopol shows how criminals use the urgent needs of Ukrainians for their own selfish purposes.

The Nikopol police uncovered a fraudulent scheme, according to which the criminal posted ads for the sale of non-existent charging stations on social networks. Fraudsters demanded an advance payment of 5,000 hryvnias and disappeared without providing the goods. More than seven people were injured after paying money for non-existent devices.

According to this fact, the suspect has already been charged. The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that similar fraudulent schemes may become more frequent during the winter season.

The police recommend citizens:

• Buy goods only in verified online stores with real reviews.
• Be careful with too low prices or extremely favorable terms.
• Avoid prepayment and prefer payment upon receipt of the goods.
