In less than two weeks, the iPhone 16 will be unveiled at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, California on September 9. Meanwhile, the approach of the premiere of new smartphones caused an increase in rumors about the next generation of gadgets — iPhone 17. Increased RAM for iPhone 17
The latest leaks from Chinese media indicate that all iPhone 17 models will receive 12 GB of RAM. This is a significant upgrade over the iPhone 16, where all models will have 8GB of RAM. In the current generation, only the flagship iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have 8 GB of RAM, while the regular models are equipped with 6 GB. Apparently, Apple plans to level these indicators in the next generation.
Increasing the amount of RAM is necessary to improve performance, in particular to support new artificial intelligence functions. Although in iPhone 16, most requests to AI will be processed on cloud servers, in iPhone 17, this RAM will allow processing some tasks directly on the device itself.
Because of these changes, Chinese social networks have recommended postponing the purchase of the iPhone 16 and waiting for the next generation, which can provide advanced AI capabilities.

According to the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, 12 GB of RAM will be available only for the iPhone 17 Pro Max — the most powerful and most expensive version. Other models, including the iPhone 17 Pro, will have less RAM. This will be a new approach for Apple, as previously the differences between the Pro and Pro Max models were only related to the size of the display, camera capabilities and other features.
Increasing power requires an efficient cooling system, so the iPhone 17 Pro Max will probably get a new evaporation chamber for better heat dissipation. This technology is already used by Samsung in its flagship devices.
Apple plans to first test advanced AI technologies on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and then implement them in other models. This will help the company traditionally separate flagship versions from the rest of the line.
What is Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence — a new system presented at WWDC 2024 that will be integrated into all Apple devices. It will provide tools for editing texts, choosing a communication style, correcting errors and summarizing records. AI will also be able to automatically suggest answers to questions in letters, create unique emojis and edit photos.
What else is known about the iPhone 17
Until the iPhone 17 is released more than a year, so there is not much information about new products. It is expected that the smartphones will receive the new Apple A19 Bionic chip, manufactured using a three-nanometer process, new OLED displays with LTPO and a frequency of up to 120 Hz. The main camera in the Pro versions will be equipped with three 48-megapixel sensors, and the front camera will receive 24 MP.
In addition, the Plus model will be removed from the lineup, and in its place will come a new Slim version with an ultra-thin body and 6.6-inch display. The price of the Slim version is expected to be $1,299, while the base version will remain at $799.
