German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Chancellor Scholz: G7 will support Ukraine «as much as necessary»
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on June 18 in an interview with the German news agency DPA that the «G7» make it clear at its upcoming summit that Ukraine can count on getting the support it needs «as much as it needs»
Scholz said he wants to use next week's meeting with other G-7 leaders in the Bavarian town of Elmau to discuss Ukraine's long-term prospects.
Scholz also called illusory any hope of Russia for a return to normal life without ending the war. Scholz said he also hopes European Union leaders will support Ukraine's EU bid when they meet in Brussels next week
“We will continue to support Ukraine for as long as necessary,” Scholz was quoted as saying by the DPA. “We want to make sure that the calculations of the President of Russia (Vladimir Putin) do not materialize.”
his seats once he has gained enough territory and the international community is back to business as usual is an illusion,” he added.
Scholz said he and his colleagues from France, Italy and Romania discussed further arms deliveries for Ukraine – in particular ammunition and artillery – with President Volodymyr Zelensky during their visit to Kyiv on Thursday.
The four leaders also supported Ukraine's bid for membership in the European Union, and Scholz expressed hope that this position will be supported by all countries of the bloc at a meeting in Brussels next week.
