Every Chabelo celebrity dies it becomes a trend , since it is always customary to compare how long the Mexican lived compared to the other person. This Wednesday, February 17, Xavier López Rodríguez was once again a topic of conversation on Twitter , but this time to celebrate his 86th birthday.
Immediately the network was filled with memes and jokes about the long-lived actor. "Chabelo will never die", "Chabelo is immortal", "A day like today but 13,800 million years ago, a second after the Big Bang, our beloved Chabelo was born", some accounts wrote.
While other accounts pointed that Chabelo has the "autographed Bible", others made reference to Chabelo "remembering" the origin of creation with the Big Bang, as well as his first pet, a dinosaur.
While other jokes included Queen Elizabeth II , and they added that the secret of long life is in the name. Well, if she were Mexican, the queen would be nicknamed “Chabela” .
But Chabelo's story transcends beyond memes, in fact it began several years before her birth, when her parents met in León, Guanajuato when they were young. But, according to an interview he gave to the newspaper Vanguardia , his father left home at the age of 11, while his mother was orphaned and had to move with her sister to Chicago, Illinois.
“ When passing from the years, fate brings my parents together in that city in the United States and they get married, "said the actor. And, after their union, their first child, Chabelo , was born on February 17, 1935.
But for Xavier, as he was known at the time, things were not easy from the beginning, as he was recruited by the US Army to age 18 to fight in the Korean war. But fate smiled at him again, because even though he trained in a base, he was saved from having fought, because the war ended.
“ I was only three months at the San Diego military base; Fortunately, the war ended and they returned me to Mexico ”, he told Diario de Coahuila .
The interpreter saw this as the perfect opportunity to fulfill his greatest dream: to become a doctor. According to the Zócalo newspaper, López Rodríguez studied four years and despite not having finished his degree, he opened a sanatorium with a colleague.
“I wanted to study medicine out of passion. In fact, I had a sanatorium where I operated, with a good hand, together with Juan, a colleague who did finish his degree and with whom I set up a clinic to care for low-income people, ”he said on a visit to the Universidad Anáhuac.
But As Mexicans already know, his career was not established in medicine, but developed in an unexpected field: acting. According to what the Milenio newspaper reported, his career in this field began by accident. Ramiro Gamboa's program “ Carrusel musical ”, in which he worked as a production assistant, needed an actor who would play a child, but he was absent.
Gamboa, later known as “El tío Gamboín” , knew about the talent of Xavier to double voices, so he instructed him to put on some shorts and he came on stage with his "boy voice." And in a 10-minute sketch , Xavier went from being a medical student to being a “friend of all children.”
The program “En Familia con Chabelo” had its first broadcast on December 6, 1968 on the Televicentro channel . Thanks to this, he has had several recognitions among which two Guinness Records stand out: the first for the longest career as a child driver for 44 years and the second for the longest time playing a single character ( Chabelo for 53 years) .
Although the actor has enjoyed a fruitful career, he is reminded every time someone in entertainment dies and more recently, he was Designated as a sexual harasser by former actress and host Alexandra Beffer .
