CF Montreal traded striker Maximiliano Urruti to Dynamo Houston on Monday in return for Slovenian center-back Aljaz Struna and a foreign player spot for the 2021 season.
The Montreal squad also gave up a second-round pick in the MLS SuperDraft in 2022.
“We are very happy to add a large central defender to our defensive line,” CF Montreal sports director Olivier Renard said in a statement.
“He has experience in MLS and at the international level, in addition to having evolved for several years in Italy,” he added.
The 30-year-old Struna joined Dynamo Houston on December 24, 2018 from Italian club Palermo FC He played 46 MLS games with the Texan club, including 45 starts, for a total of 4,046 minutes.
Internationally, he played 21 games with Slovenia’s national side, making his senior debut on March 23, 2016 against Macedonia.
In the last two seasons in Montreal, Urruti has scored nine goals and collected eight assists in 46 regular season games.
For Urruti, it will be a return to Texas, he who spent three seasons with FC Dallas before joining the Impact in 2019.
Houston will retain a percentage of the transfer fee if Struna is subsequently transferred out of MLS.
