Targeted by allegations of gestures of a sexual nature, Cardinal Gérald Cyprien Lacroix temporarily withdraws from his functions as Archbishop of Quebec.

Allegations of sexual assault have been revealed in new court documents filed as part of a class action against the Archdiocese of Quebec.

The name of Cardinal Lacroix, aged 66, is among 15 names added to a list of alleged attackers filed Thursday in the Superior Court of Quebec as part of the collective action led by the Arsenault Dufresne Wee firm.

This collective action, authorized in 2022 by the Superior Court of Quebec, involves any person, as well as their heirs and assigns, who have been sexually assaulted by members of the clergy or lay personnel who were under the responsibility of the x27;archdiocese of Quebec since the 1940s.

Allegations against Cardinal Lacroix, also primate of the Roman Catholic Church in Canada, go back in 1987 and 1988. The alleged victim was 17 years old at the time of the first alleged assault.
