(Washington) Zdeno Chara netted a first goal for his new club and the Washington Capitals beat the New York Islanders 6-3 on Thursday.
The Islanders scored all three goals in the first period, but the Capitals scored five unanswered times in the second period – including four goals in 5:09.

Chara’s goal completed the push, after a brace from Conor Sheary (twice) and goals from Garnet Hathaway and John Carlson, the latter on the power play.
Chara scored with a slap shot from the line. The 43-year-old veteran has long been captain of the Boston Bruins, next visitors to Washington on Saturday.
Tom Wilson completed in an empty net, while Vitek Vanecek made 27 saves.
The Islanders’ goals came from Oliver Wahlstrom, Casey Cizikas and Anders Lee, who was playing a 500e career game in the NHL.
The team suffered a third straight setback.
