Canada included the Iranian “Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps” (IRGC) on the list of terrorist organizations and may conduct an investigation against senior Iranian officials living in the country.

A senior cabinet member said this, reports Reuters.

"Canada will use all possible tools to combat the terrorist activities of the IRGC," – Public Security Minister Dominic LeBlanc told reporters.

According to him, the decision is based on “very serious and convincing evidence.”

The United States took a similar step in April 2019.

Opposition legislators have long demanded that the IRGC be included in the list of terrorist organizations, but the liberal government refused, citing the fact that this could lead to unforeseen consequences.

BAGNET recalls that in 2012, Canada recognized the Al-Quds Force, a division of the IRGC involved in operations outside Iran, as a terrorist organization.

Ottawa severed diplomatic relations with Tehran in 2012.
