Burkina Faso army receives Bren 2 assault rifles

The Burkina Faso Army has received Bren 2 assault rifles manufactured in the Czech Republic.

A photo of a soldier with this assault rifle was published by the Hammer Of War account on the X social network (formerly Twitter).

In the photo, the soldier is holding a CZ-806 Bren 2 assault rifle in 7.62×39 caliber mm.

Previously, the order of Czech assault rifles for Burkina Faso was not reported and it remains unknown when exactly this African country ordered and received them.

The BREN 2 assault rifle, developed by Česká zbrojovka, was first shown in 2015. In 2017, it was adopted by the army of the Czech Republic.

The assault rifle uses a gas-operated automatic mechanism with a short stroke of the gas piston and a locking bolt.

It has a quick-change barrel, which allows you to adjust the length and caliber. The receiver is made of aluminum alloy, and the trigger guard, pistol grip, and magazine receiver are made of plastic.

In the basic versions, the Bren 2 can use the following barrel types and calibers:

  • 207 mm (8 inches) and 357 mm (14 inches) for 5.56×45 mm,
  • 227 mm (9 inches) and 280 mm (11 inches) for 7.62×39 mm.

There are more variants The Bren 2 is available in variants chambered for 7.62×51 NATO:

  • CZ BREN 2 BR – has a 407 mm (16 inch) barrel and is fed from a 25-round magazine.
  • CZ BREN 2 PPS – Marksman rifle, developed on the basis of the CZ BREN 2 BR, barrel length is 457 mm, effective firing range 600-800 meters.

The main operating countries of the Bren/Bren 2 are the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Indonesia, Mexico, France, Egypt, Slovakia and Portugal, and now Burkina Faso is known.

In general, the products of Eastern European gunsmiths remain quite popular in the world and in addition to the products of Czech gunsmiths, the products of their neighbors are also popular.

For example, the Polish GROT is in the possession of the Rwandan Defense Forces, and in addition to the rifles themselves, they also use 40 mm Łucznik underbarrel grenade launchers.
