Retired Bulgarian Prime Minister Kirill Petkov told reporters in parliament that 70 diplomats from the Russian embassy in Bulgaria would be recalled and returned to Moscow, Novini.bg reports.

“Most of them worked for the foreign affairs agencies, and their diplomatic role was more of a cover,” Petkov added.

According to him, these are 70 people who held various official positions in embassy of Russia, which were engaged in unusual activities, the prime minister said, refusing to reveal the details because they are classified.

“This is not aggression against the Russian people – just when foreign governments try to interfere in the internal affairs of Bulgaria, we have institutions to counter” t;,, he stressed.

At the same time, the Russian embassy in Sofia confirmed the fact of the expulsion of diplomats.

"Bulgaria decided to expel 70 diplomats and representatives of technical staff of the Russian Embassy", – TASS quotes the department's statement in Telegram.

At the same time, according to the same TASS, the Russian Foreign Ministry, in turn, stated that the Kremlin would respond to this unfriendly step by Bulgaria.

Earlier BAGNET reported that Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Bulgaria decided to expel Russian diplomats and embassy staff. The reason for this was Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.
