(New Orleans) Tom Brady’s best game against the New Orleans Saints in three tries with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers helped his new team reach the National Association final.
The Buccaneers converted three Saints turnovers to points, including two interceptions from Drew Brees, and they triumphed 30-20 on Sunday night
Brady threw two touchdown passes, to Mike Evans and Leonard Fournette, and added a ground major to secure a 14e career presence in the association final, but a first in the National.
The Buccaneers face the Packers in Green Bay on Sunday, where the 43-year-old veteran quarterback will go for a 10e visit to the Super Bowl.
“We have worked hard to get to this point. Two road playoff wins is fun, Brady said. We have to beat a very good team that is playing well. Aaron Rodgers plays amazingly. ”
On the Saints’ side, the era of Brees in New Orleans could end after 15 seasons.
The 42-year-old Brees may well have played his last career game at the Superdome. He is still under contract for another season, but he still has not made known his intentions for the next campaign.
If this is indeed his last game in the NFL career, Brees will seek to forget it. The leader in NFL history in passing completed and aerial yards has only managed 19 of his 34 attempts for gains of 134 yards. He threw a touchdown pass and suffered three interceptions.
Brady was no more spectacular, completing 18 of his 33 passes for overhead gains of 199 yards. Unlike his last two outings against the Saints – two losses – he did not throw any interceptions and he was able to avoid the pressure.
“We played better than the last two games against them,” said Brady. We had made several turnovers the last time. This time, they are the ones who made the turnarounds. This is often the story in football matches. ”
After Brees’ third interception, on a deflected pass in the fourth quarter, the Buccaneers were able to elapse the last minutes of the game. In his first season at Tampa Bay after 20 in the New England Patriots uniform, Brady dropped his knee to the ground before celebrating with his teammates.
The Saints were leading 6-3 when Brees, who wanted to avoid the pressure, threw a weak pass to Michael Thomas. Sean Murphy-Bunting stepped in and stopped his run at the three Saints line. Brady joined Evans in the end zone the next game.
The Saints responded, including a penalty for holding in Murphy-Bunting. They walked to the 44 line before making a rigged play.
Kamara captured the center’s throw and gave the ball to wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who threw the object to quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston threw a long pass to Tre’Quan Smith, who crossed the end zone for a major of 56 yards.
Ryan Succop hit a 37-yard precision punt to tie the game 13-13 at the half.
Brees returned the lead to the Saints in the third quarter, throwing a 16-yard touchdown pass to Smith. The New Orleans squad looked in a good position to add points to their total, but Antoine Winfield Jr. knocked the ball off Jared Cook and Devin White brought the object back to the Saints’ 40 line.
Five games later, Brady took advantage of the turnaround to throw a six-yard touchdown pass to Fournette.
Succop gave the Buccaneers a 23-20 lead before White came in for a blow to the Saints by intercepting a pass from Brees to Alvin Kamara.
