The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) denied a alleged conflict of interest due to the appointment of Juan Carlos Zecenarro, brother of the prosecutor Karla Zecenarro, as head of the Cabinet of Advisors of said portfolio.
Through a statement, he assured that one of the functions that he develops Zecenarro Monge is to participate in commissions and/or work meetings related to matters of competence of the MEF that are entrusted to him.
“Therefore, his presence at various work meetings, together with other officials of the institution, falls within the scope of the performance of his duties”, he stated in the statement.
Furthermore, it specified that the brother of prosecutor Karla Zecenarro was appointed to the position “meeting all the academic and professional experience requirements required in the Job Profile Manual”.
Similarly, he remembered Zecenarro Monge has worked as a director of the MEF since October 2019, the date on which he was appointed as general director of the General Liaison Office.
For more than 4 years, between 2012 and 2016, he was executive secretary of the Vice Ministry of Economy and general director of the General Liaison Office. He has also been a senior management advisor in the Ministries of Production and Environment between 2016 and 2018.
“The MEF is one of the entities that is already in the Civil Service Regime and, within this framework, respects and complies with the requirements established for the job profiles in the appointments of its officers and directors, and rejects any insinuation that seeks to involve the institution in alleged conflicts of interest”, he ruled.

As you remember , Giuliana Quiñones, attorney for former Secretary General of the Government Palace Bruno Pacheco, requested that prosecutor Karla Zecenarro withdraw from the investigation of the Puente Tarata III case, since her brother worked as chief of the cabinet of advisors to the MEF.
Quiñones pointed out that they have filed complaints against Zecenarro, who is in charge of the Fifth Office of the Second Prosecutor's Office Specialized in Crimes of Corruption of Officials.
“Unfortunately, we are talking about a corruption of officials and she is a person who persecutes in an impartial manner, we find the prosecutor that she is committing irregular acts and there is a direct relative who is Juan Carlos Zecenarro Monge, his brother, who by chance has been appointed head of the MEF advisory cabinet”, told Successful.
