The UK wants to strengthen its own army so that in case of war it will be ready to fight alongside its allies in Europe.
This was announced by the new army commander, General Patrick Sanders, writes Independent.
In his first address to the military, he spoke about the threats that arose in Europe against the backdrop of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The General mentioned the possibility of World War III and stated that the British army must be ready to “fight in Europe”.
“Now it is imperative to create an army that can fight alongside our allies and defeat the battle”, – he said.
Sanders added that his main goal is to strengthen the troops and prepare for battles on land.
“Russian invasion of Ukraine emphasizes our main goal – to protect the UK, being ready to fight and win wars on land”, – said the head of the army.
It is worth noting that Sanders will lead the smallest army in the last 300 years , as the UK reduced the number of military personnel by 73 thousand people.
