British plans to become leading NATO country

The Labor government intends to make Britain a leading member of the North Atlantic Alliance in Europe.

As The Guardian writes, British Defense Minister John Healey said this.

According to him, US defense policy priorities in the near future will shift from Europe to the Indo-Pacific region , given the Chinese threat.

"The implications of this are that the European countries in NATO must take on much of the heavy lifting and some of the leadership that traditionally we have been able to delegate to the Americans, &ndash ; he added.

Therefore, the British minister continued his speech, Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Washington promised that “under the new government, Britain will be the leading European country in NATO.”

The new British prime minister is not against blows British weapons against Russia

"We recognize the responsibility that, together with other European countries, we must take upon ourselves", – Healy concluded.

The new Labor government led by Starmer previously promised to increase defense spending to 2.5% of GDP from the current level of 2.32%, but did not specify when it would do this. The Conservatives, who were previously in power, cited 2030 as the deadline.

Although Britain has traditionally been the leading European country in NATO, when measured by defense spending, it should be ahead of Germany by the end of 2024.< /p> Prepared by: Nina Petrovich
