A passenger plane has crashed in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. According to authorities and the airline Voepass, which operated the flight, all 62 people on board were killed, the Voice of America reports.
The plane crash occurred near the city of Vinhedo, northwest of Sao Paulo. There were no reported casualties among local residents on the ground.
The Voepass website reports that flight 2283 took off from the city of Cascavel to Guarulhos Airport with 57 passengers and 4 crew members on board. “VOEPASS Linhas Aéreas is currently prioritizing providing unlimited assistance to the families of the victims and is cooperating with the authorities to eliminate the causes of the accident,” the company said in a statement.
This is the deadliest air disaster in the last year and a half. In January 2023, 72 people died in the crash of a Yeti Airlines plane in Nepal.
No official cause for the incident has yet been announced. Local media cite analysts who point to icing as one of the possible causes of the disaster.
