Youssoufa Moukoko had taken the penultimate step. After dominating all the lower echelons of German football at will (he played for St. Pauli until 2016 and in the Dortmund youth academy), the Yaoundé striker was on the final steps towards establishing himself in the elite. He turned 16 on November 20 and Dortmund did not hesitate to make him debut with the first team the following day against Hertha Berlin.
There was no better gift for the striker whose participation, despite having Haaland as a competition, cannot be described as anecdotal. Moukoko was already training with the first team and was enjoying opportunities almost every day of the Bundesliga, in which he has scored three goals in fourteen games. An upward trajectory that will have to stop until next season.
After not playing against Eintracht Frankfurt due to injury this day, Borussia Dortmund confirmed the worst of the forecasts. The young forward has a ligament injury in one of his feet and will be out for the rest of the season, missing the tie against City and the fight to enter Europe.
Dominion among his equals
Youssoufa Moukoko’s data fascinated both inside and outside Germany, entering the scouts’ list as one of the most notable talents for the future.. His numbers were scandalous in the category that he played by age and they remained that way until his arrival in the first team.
This season he played just four games with the U19s in which he scored thirteen goals: hat-tricks against Pr.Münster, Wehen in the Cup and Schalke in the Rühr derby between youth and a goal against Essen. A domain that will be seen whether or not it moves to professional football, but which, in any case, will have to wait for the next campaign.
