Both Alcaraz and Djokovic are in the semifinals in Cincinnati, Muchova is waiting for Sabalenkova

Cincinnati (USA) – Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic advanced to the semifinals in Cincinnati after winning over the American Taylor Fritz 6:0, 6:4 and at the same time ensured his participation in the Tournament of Champions. Among the top four is also world number one Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who, however, put in a lot more effort to win over Australian Max Purcell. He defeated the 70th player in the ATP rankings, who qualified for the main competition, 4:6, 6:3, 6:4.

Aryna Sabalenková of Belarus will be Karolína Muchová's semi-final opponent. The world number two beat Wimbledon finalist Uns Jabirova from Tunisia 7:5, 6:3. The Czech player defeated Sabalenkova in the semi-finals of Roland Garros this year, the overall record with her is 1:1.

After Alcaraz, Djokovic is the second tennis player to qualify for the Tournament of Champions in Turin. The thirty-six-year-old Serb succeeded for the sixteenth time. He outclassed the ninth player in the world in 62 minutes and won the seventh match between them. The world number two will face German Alexander Zverev for his seventh appearance in the finals in Cincinnati.

For Purcell, the tournament of his life ended in the quarterfinals, even though he was able to take the first set from Alcaraz. After valuable wins over Norway's Casper Ruud and Switzerland's Stan Wawrinka, this year's Wimbledon champion was beyond his strength.

“He impressed me a lot. He plays well, he has a good serve, volleys too. It was hard work,” he said Alcaraz to reporters. The 20-year-old Spaniard will face Robert Hurkacz for the final, which would guarantee him the post of world number one next week. Last week, he beat the Pole after a big fight in Toronto.
