A 'bomb cyclone' hits the western US

According to hurricane-force winds and torrential rains, a 'bomb cyclone' swept across the northwestern US and parts of Canada on the night of November 20.

One person was reported dead; hundreds of thousands of people were left without power in Washington, California, and British Columbia, Canada, the Voice of America reports.

In Seattle, powerful winds knocked down trees; some of them fell on roofs of houses, causing damage.

In Lynwood, north of Seattle, a woman in her 50s was killed when a large tree fell on a homeless camp, the local fire department told CNN.

More than 650,000 people were without power in Washington, about 140,000 in British Columbia, and more than 24,000 in California, BC Hydro said.
