Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro affirmed his intention to remain active in his country's politics and maintained that the government of Lula da Silva “does not it will last a long time”, all this in his first public event in Orlando, Florida (southern USA), during a tribute paid to him by his compatriots.

Bolsonaro also assured that he has hope in the new Parliament that will be installed this Wednesday in their country.

At an event organized in Florida by the group Yes Brazil USA attended by supporters of the former president, Bolsonaro set his sights on the 2024 municipal elections, which he described as “very important”.

“We cannot abandon politics. Politics is part of our lives. I am 67 years old and I intend to remain active in Brazilian politics,” Bolsonaro remarked during his speech, according to Folha de S.Paulo.

He indicated that the new government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva “will not last long”. “You can be sure, in a short time we will have news. By itself, if this government continues in the line that it has demonstrated in these first 30 days, it won't last long,” he stated.

The former president criticized the perpetrators of the assault on the headquarters of the three powers in Brasilia and specified that there were injustices.

We are sorry for what some inconsequential people did on January 8th. That is not our right. It's not our people ”, he said, before noting that many people have been detained.

That is not terrorism by our legislation. There are people who must be individualized by invasion or predation. Each one pays for what they have done”, he declared.

Previously, the former president applied for a tourist visa to be able to stay in the United States for six more months , as reported by one of his lawyers in an interview with the British newspaper Financial Times.

Florida will be his temporary home away from home (Brazil ),” said his lawyer, Felipe Aleixandrefounder of the firm AG Immigration. The former president “needs some stability,” according to Aleixandre, who left open the possibility that Bolsonaro would apply for a permanent visa.

Since his arrival in Orlando , Bolsonaro has stayed at the home of a mixed martial arts fighter, José Aldo, who is one of his followers.

His presence in the United States has become more controversial as a result of the attack on the three powers in Brasilia carried out by hundreds of his followers at the beginning of January to overthrow the Lula government.

At the request of the Prosecutor's Office, on January 14, the Supreme Court of Brazil included the former Brazilian president in the list of those investigated for the coup attempt.

This Tuesday, the Brazilian Supreme Court authorized the Federal Policeto question the president of the Liberal Party (PL), Valdemar Costa Neto, an important ally of former president Jair Bolsonaro, about a statement in which he acknowledged that he had access to documents that proposed a coup State in Brazil.

The decision of magistrate Alexandre de Moraes, one of the eleven members of the Federal Supreme Court, set a period of five days for the federal Police to listen to Costa Neto about possible coup plans during the government of the far-right leader.

The interrogation was requested by the Federal Police itself after that the newspaper O Globo published an interview in which the leader of the political party affirmed that he received various proposals to try to reverse the result of the elections last October but that he crushed the documents.
