The Foreign Minister spoke with Ilham Aliyev
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had a talk with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Sunday.
This was announced by a spokesman State Department Ned Price.
“Secretary Blinken has welcomed the cessation of recent hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the State Department website said in a statement. “He urged President Aliyev to adhere to the ceasefire, withdraw military forces and work to resolve all outstanding issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan through peaceful negotiations.”
Recall that Armenia stated that on September 13, shortly after midnight , Azerbaijan shelled at least six Armenian settlements in the border areas, attacking civilian and military infrastructure with drones and large-caliber guns.
Yerevan stated that this was an unprovoked aggression.
Azerbaijan, supported by Turkey, rejects these statements. Baku claims that Armenian sabotage units tried to mine Azerbaijani positions, which prompted the military to retaliate.
Armenia claims this version is disinformation.
The most violent clashes between the two countries after 2020 were celebrated on Tuesday. On Thursday, the fighting stopped after international mediation.
