Dmytro Shymkiv is a top Ukrainian manager in the field of information technology, a chairman of the Board of Directors of Darnytsia Group, a former deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine (from 09/07/2014 to 31/08/2018), ex-CEO of Microsoft Ukraine, a member of Kyivstart Supervisory Board.

Shymkiv was born in Lviv. In 1997 he graduated from Lviv Polytechnic State University, the telecommunications, radio electronics, and electronic engineering faculty. Later in 2011, he took part in the specialized project Information and Communication Technologies and Public Policy: the Next Wave at John F. Kennedy Harvard School of Government, USA.
While studying at the university, he initiated the establishment of one of the first university computer networks in Ukraine — PolyNet.
In 1998 Dmytro Shymkiv moved to Copenhagen (Denmark), where he worked for ALTA Copenhagen company.
After moving back to Ukraine in 2000, he founded Alfa Team company which he sold to ALTA A/S Danish corporation after two years of its performance. After its reorganization, Alfa Team was transformed into ALTA Eastern Europe. Dmytro Shymkiv was in charge of the R&D department of ALTA A/S and managed the development team in Denmark, Ukraine, and the USA.
In 2002-2006’s he held the CEO position of ALTA Eastern Europe in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Then in 2006-2007’s Dmytro Shymkiv was the CEO of RedPrairie Eastern Europe (an international developer of solutions in the field of productivity) in the USA. At the same time, he was the chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce information technology committee in Ukraine.
From March 2007 to May 2009, he held the sales director position in the Microsoft Ukraine corporate segment. After three years of his appointment as the CEO, Dmytro Shymkiv was recognized as the best top manager in Ukraine due to the annual ranking «Top 100».
Since May 2009, he was the CEO of Microsoft Ukraine. Under Dmytro Shymkiv’s leadership, Microsoft Ukraine was constantly estimated as one of the most successful Microsoft divisions globally, including its recognition as the best worldwide division in 2011. Moreover, having the CEO’s rights, Shymkiv could promote a compulsory course «Children’s safety on the internet» at Ukrainian schools.
On July 9, 2014, Dmytro Shymkiv left his business manager position in Microsoft Ukraine and the company itself.
From July 2014 to August 2018, Shymkiv worked as the deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine (PAU). His engagement led to forming the National Council of Reforms, preparing the strategy «Ukraine 2020», establishing the mobile communication of the third/fourth generation (3G / 4G), creating initiatives like «Digital Ukraine» and «Go Global», the electronic system of state procurement «ProZorro» and the Ukrainian cultural fund, organizing the cyber defense PAU and many others reforms, initiatives, and innovations.
In September 2018, Dmytro Shymkiv headed the board of Darnytsia Pharmaceutical company.
In 2020, Dmytro Shymkiv was recognized as one of the Ukrainians who has shared valuable insights on business, pharmaceuticals, innovations (№ 18 in «Top 100 Most Inspiring Ukrainians»).
He is married and growing three children.
