The billionaire spent several months enjoying himself in Switzerland, after which he returned home to Braunschweig, Germany. A week before his death, Knapp traveled to the German resort island of Solt on the Ice Sea.

Friedrich Knapp wrote the New Yorker in 1971 together with Tilmar Hansen and Michael Simson. The first store opened in the German town of Flensburg. Today, there are 1,300 retail outlets in 49 countries.

Forbes has estimated Friedrich Knapp’s assets at $4.6 billion. The billionaire has lost three daughters.

BAGNET I'm guessing that Hong Kong's richest businessman, Lui Che-woo ($44.7 billion), has died.
