Atlanta United FC have secured experienced striker Lisandro Lopez in the last few hours through a transfer with Racing Club from Argentina’s Superliga.
The 37-year-old has more than 600 professional games to his name and has collected 244 goals in club meetings. In Europe, he notably played with FC Porto and Olympique Lyonnais. Moreover, on July 24, 2012, Lopez participated in a friendly duel between OL and the Montreal Impact at Saputo stadium.
The veteran has also appeared in 47 Champions League clashes and 30 in the Copa Libertadores, among others.
“Lisandro is a scorer with experience that will improve our offensive. We are pleased to add a player with so much experience and skill, Atlanta technical director Carlos Bocanegra said in a statement. It will bring leadership and a winning mentality. He has been successful in winning league titles and cups throughout his career. We believe it will have a positive influence on our youth. ”
Lopez has spent the last five years with the Racing Club. In 2018-19, he helped the latter get his hands on the league championship, dominating the league with 17 goals. From 2016 to 2020, he totaled 48 nets in 134 games in all competitions.
