The counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in several directions at once means that Ukraine intends to fight for its territories. And it will not allow Russia to dictate its political plans. Jake Sullivan, National Security Adviser to the President of the United States, said this at an online meeting of the Yalta European Strategy. (YES).
"I would like to make three short remarks to try to answer your question (about the Ukrainian counter-offensive – ed.). Firstly, the Ukrainian military has made progress both in the south and in the east, pushing the Russians back and showing that this war is not going in one direction, it is going in the other direction, and the Ukrainian army is pushing the Russians out of their positions, and this is good, both from a tactical point of view on the battlefield and from a strategic point of view, to make it clear to Moscow and the rest of the world that Ukraine intends to return the territory, – Sullivan noted.
Po According to him, the pressure of Ukrainian troops on the front lines in the Kharkiv and Kherson regions affects the ability of the Russians to attack in other directions. Because they have to transfer to the defense those units that they planned to use in the seizure of territories. Otherwise they would be used to try to capture more territory
"And this also serves the big strategic goals of the Ukrainian forces. And finally, this counter-offensive shows that Ukraine is going to fight for the occupied territories and is not going to just let Russia move forward with the political plans that it indicated, – he added.
Also Sullivan noted that ultimately the Russian-Ukrainian war will someday end with negotiations, but the order and nature of these negotiations will be determined by Ukraine.
