Bertone Runabout inspired by the Autobianchi A112 Runabout concept/Bertone
During its 112-year history, the Bertone company has created some truly beautiful cars: Alfa Romeo Montreal, Lamborghini Countach, Lancia Stratos – the list goes on. The latest creation of the Italian brand is no less stunning.
The new Bertone Runabout was inspired by the Autobianchi A112 Runabout concept, which Marcello Gandini designed for the brand back in 1969, Motor1 writes. Remember this crazy thing? But instead of the Fiat 128 platform used by the original, this concept has a modern (unnamed) base. Although it looks very lotus-like.
Andrea Mocellin (Andrea Mocellin) has developed a new design that is largely inspired by the original concept. The car even has the same silver-orange color. It's also available in a standard convertible configuration or as an even more beautiful hardtop, as Bertone renders show.
Under that stunning hood is a 500-horsepower V-6 engine. The original concept had a 1.1-liter four-cylinder engine with only 50 horsepower, so the new one should be much faster. Again, Bertone doesn't specify things like displacement, or tell us if it's supercharged, supercharged, or otherwise.
The new Runabout will allegedly “retain the character of an agile , an easy-to-lift car”, and will be the first car in the company's new line of “CLASSIC” cars. So expect to see even more beautiful Bertone designs updated like this in the future.
But if you want a car like this, you'd better hurry. Bertone says the Runabout will be produced in very limited numbers – though the company hasn't specified how limited. Production is due to begin in 2026, and each will cost around $377,000 (€350,000).
