A few days before one of the most important duels of the year for Melgar. The Arequipa team will clash against Independiente del Valle for the first leg of the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana 2022 and Bernardo Cuesta will be one of the fundamental pieces of Pablo Lavallén.

Speaking to RPP Noticias, the red and black striker referred to Melgar's preparation for the important duel: “We come looking for something important, a positive result. We prepare for this meeting. Every game and training we have to keep improving, we have a difficult challenge but not impossible. It will be a close game, very detailed and you have to make as few mistakes as possible.”

Likewise, Cuesta gave his opinion about Independiente del Valle: “It is a great rival, with individualities and collectively very strong, but we have our weapons and we come in search of something important.”

Independiente del Valle will meet Melgar this Wednesday, August 31, 2022. It should be noted that it will be a high-altitude semifinal, as the first leg will be played in Quito at an altitude of 2,850 meters.

Melgar does not come to Quito alone, more than one red and black fan will be present and Cuesta was grateful: “I want to thank the people of Arequipa for the support of coming so far, we know the effort that they do and we are very grateful for that.”

Those led by the Argentine Pablo Lavallén seek to surprise once again after eliminating in the quarterfinals in the final against Inter de Porto Alegre on penalties at Beira Rio, after two goalless draws.

“We are very excited ”,  confessed Melgar's coach, Pablo Lavallén. The Argentine coach replaced his compatriot Néstor Lorenzo before the quarterfinals, who left to lead the Colombian team.
