Behavior Interactive, the publisher of the popular horror video game Dead by Daylight, has cut around forty jobs in Montreal, which ends the honeymoon of the independent studio, which has passed from one to six establishments in less than two years.

We have changed the scope of many of our projects to adjust to the market. This has led to changes in staffing requirements.

When this happens, we always prefer to reassign [people] to other other projects, but unfortunately this was not possible in this case, explained Marie-Eve Boisvert to Radio-Canada, adding that Behavior Interactif remains in excellent financial health.

The company has made numerous announcements with great fanfare in recent years, with the opening of a new office in Toronto and the acquisition of studios in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The studio employs more than 1,350 people around the world, the majority of whom use the Montreal office.

Its main source of income is its horror game Dead by Daylight, with a vast base of around 50 million players worldwide. A collaboration with popular video game character Alan Wake will be rolling out for this title in January.

In “Meet Your Maker”, players can create worlds or destroy those of others.

The company is increasingly diversifying its catalog with the 2023 launch of Meet Your Maker, a strategy and shooter video game in the first person.

Technology industries have been under attack since the start of 2024, with several announcements of job cuts. The company behind the Unity game engine, which has a studio in Montreal, announced it was cutting 25% of its workforce at the beginning of the month.
