Tokyo (AP) – The two German beach volleyball duos Laura Ludwig / Margareta Kozuch and Karla Borger / Julia Sude trained on sand for the first time after their arrival in Tokyo.
“We are also enthusiastic about the venue, which is the first time that we train here,” said Olympic champion Ludwig of the German press agency, who also praised the hospitality of the Japanese. “It’s all better than I thought.” Kozuch said: “Everything feels easier than I thought before.”
The two German women’s teams each had 45 minutes on one of the warm-up areas behind the stadium in Shiokaze Park. Borger, who has had good experiences with tournaments in Asia with her partner Sude, said of the heat: “It’s really amazing. You pump very quickly. ” Even with the unit after 6:00 p.m. local time, it was still 28 degrees Celsius.
Both teams will start on Saturday against opponents from Switzerland. Ludwig, who won the gold medal with Kira Walkenhorst in Rio in 2016, and Kozuch meet Tanja Hüberli / Nina Betschart. Anouk Vergé-Dépré and Joana Heidrich are the first hurdles for Sude / Borger.
