On the basis of the space program, Poland creates technology for ballistic missiles

According to journalists, the main task of the project — to create a reusable suborbital launch system capable of launching a payload beyond the Karman line to an altitude of 100 km.

At the International Defense Industry Exhibition (MSPO) 2024 in the Polish city of Kielce, the Military Institute of Weapons Technology (WITU) presents an ambitious project with development of a three-stage suborbital rocket system. Army Recognition writes about this.

Project tasks — to create a reusable suborbital launch system capable of launching a payload beyond the Karman line to an altitude of 100 km.

The project is aimed not only at reducing the cost of launching space missions, but also at opening new opportunities for microgravity research and studying the upper layers atmosphere.

At the exhibition, the aforementioned institute also demonstrated a rocket engine with a diameter of 300 mm. It has already passed tests, during which the missile guidance system was also checked. A three-stage suborbital missile also has potential as an air defense weapon. Due to its overall characteristics, it is especially suitable for medium-range air defense. Thanks to three stages, the missile can reach a range of up to 150 km.

The same three-stage propulsion system is used in the development of the 105 mm missile integrated into the Sona program for short-range air defense. The system was designed to protect troops from various aerial threats, such as drones and missiles, and it can carry up to 30 heat-guided munitions, an estimated radius — 20 km. Provides effective cover for ground troops and reinforces air defense, providing increased protection.
