The Fútbol Club Barcelona, a club still chaired by Josep Maria Bartomeu, considered it appropriate to respond to the sentence imposed by the Supreme Court against Quim Torra. The president of the Generalitat has been disqualified from holding public office for a year and a half for disobeying the Central Electoral Board and refusing to remove a banner in favor of the prisoners of the procés . The Barça entity showed its support for Torra through an official statement in which it also discussed the Supreme Court's resolution.

“FC Barcelona considers that the disqualification of the president of the Generalitat de Catalunya is disproportionate and seriously violates the democratic will of citizens freely expressed at the polls,” says the Barça entity, which continues: “The defense of the right to freedom of expression and the right to decide are part of the principles and civic commitment of our club. Barcelona has always defended that the political conflict that Catalonia has been experiencing for some years must be resolved through political dialogue and never through judicialization ” .

Bartomeu, who throughout his term has tried to maintain a difficult political balance since the pro-independence organizations reproached him for having allowed the Barcelona-Las Palmas dispute on the convulsive October 1, 2017 (the day on which the Catalan self-determination referendum was held suspended by the Constitutional), has again chosen to intervene. A year ago, once the sentences against the procés prisoners were notified, the Barça club already said that prison was not “the solution”, in addition to demanding “the release of convicted civic and political leaders.”
