Former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have endorsed Kamala Harris for president. The vice president herself announced this by posting a minute-long video of a telephone conversation between Harris and Barack and Michelle Obama.

“We're calling to say that Michelle and I are proud to support you and will do everything we can to ensure that you win this election and get into the Oval Office,”– said the 44th US President Kamala Harris. Michelle Obama added that "this will be a historic event," the Voice of America reports.

In response, the vice president thanked for the support, emphasizing that "this means a lot to her."

Earlier it was reported that, according to preliminary data, Vice President Kamala Harris has already secured enough support to become the official presidential candidate of the Democratic Party. Earlier this week, the Associated Press reported that at that time the number of delegates who supported her at the party convention had already exceeded 2,200, while 1,976 votes are needed for the nomination.

Barack Obama, who served as president from 2009 to 2017, remains one of the most popular figures in the Democratic Party even more than a decade after his election to his last term.

According to the YouGov rating, which is regularly updated based on public opinion polls, Barack Obama is the second most popular Democrat, second only to former President Jimmy Carter. YouGov polls also show that more than half (52%) of Americans have a positive opinion of the 44th head of the White House.

Earlier, Obama commented on US President Joe Biden's decision to leave the election race. “For him [Biden], the decision to look back at the political landscape and pass the baton to a new candidate is probably one of the most difficult in his life. But I am confident that he would not have made this decision if he did not believe that it was the right one for America,”, Obama said.
