Banksy shared a mysterious new work on Instagram

British anonymous artist Banksy shared a new mysterious graffiti on his Instagram on Monday, December 16. This is the first publication since the artist presented a series of works with animals in various locations in London in August.

The new work, the location of which the artist did not indicate, depicts a mother breastfeeding an infant. The picture seems to refer to images of Madonna with a baby. The woman's breast is visually pierced as if by a rusty pipe, from which dirty, rusty water oozes, and the baby looks confused.

Internet users argue about the meaning of Banksy's new work

Banksy left neither a location nor a signature to his graffiti. So under the post, commenters express their guesses about the meaning of the new work. Some suggest that this is an allusion to the city of Bethlehem, located on the West Bank of Palestine, and the war between Israel and Hamas.

Banksy's latest work needs more than just one meaning. It can show the struggles of mothers, the impact of war, or even the dark side of modern religion. Each sees her from his own point of view, formed by his worldview“, another commentator argues.

Works of Banksy in Ukraine

The works of the British artist are also in Ukraine. They were first noticed in the first year of the full-scale invasion of Russia, in November 2022, in various cities of the Kyiv region that were affected by the actions of the occupiers.

Traditionally in Instagram  the artist confirmed that he created the graffiti in Borodyanka, Irpen, Gostomel, Gorenka and Kyiv. Banksy posted a video that showed the process of working on the drawings.

As in Britain, there are also incidents with Banksy's works in Ukraine: one of them, in Irpen, was tried to be cut off the wall and stolen. in broad daylight, another, in Kyiv, – began to draw and glue various new details. Some – covered with protective glass.

In April 2023, graffiti similar in style to the works of Banksy was even found in the de-occupied city of Izyum Kharkiv region.
